Elle Fashion Next: Elle magazine teams with the Savannah College of Art and Design, to mentor graduating students, put on a fashion show and award a $25,000 grant. Sponsor Maybelline awards another $25,000 to another finalist.

The looks: Outfits ranged from the riotous to minimalist to sumptuous.

The front row: The competition’s judges included Iman, designers Chris Benz and Jeffrey Costello, Neiman Marcus’s Ken Downing and Bergdorf Goodman’s Linda Fargo. They were nearly (nearly!) upstaged by a young woman, in another section of the front row, wearing a giant feather headdress and a revealing outfit that would make a Vegas showgirl blush.

The outlook: The next generation is fearless, and takes risks with textiles, silhouettes and styling. Nothing is sacred, and it’s refreshing.

The winners: Faith Thornburg and Lindsay Hopkins each took home $25,000. Another $10,000 is still up for grabs on Elle.com/fashionnext for the People’s Choice prize.
