Educator Inspire: University of Colorado’s Mary Banks Spotlights Chip Thompson

So let’s face it, Crocs and EMS hiking boots don’t give Colorado much of a reputation for its fashion sense, yet CU alumnus, Chip Thompson, has paved the way for numerous Buffs into the fashion industry. In this month’s Educator Inspire column, Mary Banks from Leeds Business School at the University of Colorado, Boulder shines the limelight on FSF Ambassador and Board Member, Chip Thompson, for his incredible mentorship and investment in cultivating talent into the industry.

I met Chip Thompson a number of years ago and he encouraged me to become involved in the YMA FSF. As an alumnus of the University of Colorado, Leeds School of Business, Chip wanted to bring business students into the business of fashion. His focus on making this happen inspired me to get the word out to our current students here in Boulder – learn about the FSF, get involved and meet some of our influential alumni who are working on the business end of the fashion industry. With help from Marie Colletta and Harry Harrison, CU Boulder became a part of the greater FSF organization. Our students have consistently won scholarships and secured career positions with the guidance and mentoring of Chip and the entire FSF family. Chip, who holds the position as VP of Sales and Operations at Polo Ralph Lauren, has helped guide other FSF scholars and fellow CU alumni into careers at Ralph Lauren including Linden Ferrise, Account Executive at RL; Gregory Colussy, Assistant Merchant – International at Club Monaco; and David Thayer, Associate Planner – Menswear at Club Monaco.

Chip is an important part of the Boulder campus and continues to support our students as they participate in the scholarship competition. It takes not just a village to bring Boulder to NYC, but the journey is made possible through alumni connections with campus. Chip is our Boulder champion and working with him has been a real pleasure!
